Unvarnished Truth: Scenes from Petitto Studio
Images captured September 14, 2007

The first 14 images are an experiment in web-cam photography. I attached the web camera to the front of a bicycle helmet and wore it while I worked. The idea was for the camera to see what I was looking at. It works to some extent, but the angle isn't good and my head movements can make for poor photos. I might try this again if I can get one of those lanterns that miners use and replace the light with the web cam.

The first painting is the truck again, adjusting colors, proportions, angles and starting to simplify the background.

The second painting is one I started outdoors from life about a week before. I had worked on it about 2 hours on site. This is the first time I have worked on it in the studio and by now the original paint layers are dry. I try to capture the general composition and key all the colors outdoors, then stick to those colors when I get back inside. Reference photos help me once I'm back in the studio but the color in photos leave a lot to be desired.
