I wanted to break up the big rectangle in the foreground by making the chair have open slats. So I started by cutting a template for the openings. I'll put the template over the painting and just paint in what should be on the other side. Later, realizing that my brain has been saturated with this image for so long I cannot get a good clear vision of it, I would like to put it asside for several weeks at least. But there is a show comming up ... so I decide to take a shortcut. I put the photo of the model in photoshop, turned it into gray scale, then posterized so that I got a nice map of light and dark areas on the figure. The actual colors are guided partly by the photo and partly by the rest of the painting. Finally I can get a crisp rendering of the image. I also used a brush to correct the outer contours of the face a bit. Later I moved on to the sunset painter painting. I corrected the colors in the sky, tried to simplify it and enrich the color. Then started to put in a figure. |
