Today was a long struggle to work out the color of the foreground figure. It is a dark, shadowy figure and I've done this before, but each time it seems like a new puzzle. Lots of false startes. In the end, I went back to utter basics by putting in a value study of the figure with the underpainting color. I'll let that dry and then paint onto it.
