In the spring of 1997, I started some low cost landscaping on the hill behind the pond. I went for woodsy, shade tolerant plants - several varieties of hosta and a small white bleeding heart. I planted the larger varieties near the bottom and the smaller ones toward the top to enhance the sense of height and perspective of the "mountain". The waterfall would have to wait until there was a lot of water in the pond itself.
