PREPARING TO LINE THE POND - 1997

First we had to pump out what water remained at the bottom of the pond (about 2 feet of it).

Here you see Bill and our neighbor, Bob with a pump borrowed from a nearby farm. In this picture they are trying to prime it to get it started. This wasn't easy and required a good deal of sweating and swearing but finally they got it going.

Bill checks that the nozzle is clear. They kept the intake in a bucket at the bottom of the pond to avoid sucking up too much mud. This worked down to about 6 or 8 inches of water.

The last few inches had to be bailed out by hand. In the process, Bill found and rescued four goldfish that had been keeping the mosquito population down for us.

Once Bill recovered from this stage, we worked on lining the sides of the pond with carpet.
