I live and work in a small rural town near Rochester, New York. I am an active member of the Rochester Art Club, Rochester Contemporary, and the Memorial Art Gallery. My earliest art education came at home; my mother was a painter and my father a professional sculptor. I have made drawings and sculptures throughout my life, I began painting in 1997 and since then painting in oils has become a full time occupation.
In my drawings and paintings, I focus on the human figure for the beauty of the form and for the emotional impact of gesture. I work as loosely as possible so that the paint and painting process suggest ways of going beyond the literal. As the work progresses, I discover a mood, a theme, some kind of meaning in the piece.
